Commercial Grade Heavy Bag Stand Review
I have had this bag set up in my living room for about 2 weeks now and it suits its purpose, but there are a couple of things a potential purchaser should know. I bought this stand because I didn't have a suitable ceiling to hang a bag from in my entire house and gyms don't accomodate my night shift hours. The unit is very sturdily built and is bolted together quite securely at the base. Unfortunately, the box was absolutely shreded when it arrived and one of the long bolts was missing. A trip to Lowes got me something close enough to work, but it was rather inconveinient, oh well. I planned to hang a 100 lb 6' thai bag, but the stand was nowhere near tall enough to accomodate the chain that came with the bag as it was intended to be hung. So I had to hack off all except for 3 links of each of the 4 chains that attached to the bag - and that still wasn't enough. The spring that comes with this stand is 6 or 7 inches long and hooks to a hole on a metal piece which is actually another internally constructed spring mechanism up in the horizontal rod. I could have tossed the spring, but I wasn't sure if it was required to alleviate the lateral stress on the stand from hard kicks. Also the hole that the spring goes into was too small for a heavy enough "S" hook. So I had to order a 4" spring from the Martial Arts Supermarket here on Amazon for about $21. Luckily it worked because it was the only thing I could find. Now the bag is a couple inches off the floor which is where I wanted it. A stand like this really needs to be bolted to the floor and it does have holes in the appropriate places to do so. It will scoot if you hit it with a hard side kick for instance. Other less forceful strikes also cause it to move a bit, but not too much. The feet do have rubber fittings on them. I think ideally this stand should have been used with a 5' bag and I might still get one. The feet are wide enough apart to allow you to move a bit and practice at least a little footwork. I seems to handle 100 lbs well. All in all, its expensive, but cheaper than building a room with a ceiling that can hang a bag and a lot better than the cheap home stand that I had years ago.
