Everlast EverFlex Freestanding Heavy Bag (Black) Review
Last Christmas (2009) I received a similar Everlast bag; not only was it not nearly as good as this one, it only lasted for a year before fracturing where the top bolted to the base. It started "clicking" (when kicked) so I looked under the vinyl "skirt" that covered the attaching bolts and saw it had broken loose about 1/4 of the way around. This new product (2226) is superior to the last one in that it has a flexible neck that absorbs the kinetic energy and returns it to you, right away. By returning the force it provides a much greater resistance to the next punch or kick, if delivered quickly. Otherwise it wobbles pointlessly awaiting your next move. It is best used, in my opinion, as a sort of speed bag. I have it on a carpeted area which makes the "wave action" more pronounced. Keep in mind that this item is mostly made of plastic which is, well, plastic. My background is in King Tiger Tae-Kwon-Do so kicking is emphasized. There's no doubt that I could break its "neck" with sustained and aggressive roundhouse kicks.I believe, if you can exercise control, you will not break this bag/base unit. If you really want to throw punishing kicks to this unit have a partner on the opposite side of the bag to stabilize it and add additional resistance. This will help you to prepare for sparring in tournaments. In summary, this is a very nice unit for 95% of the population. PS: I just received my new bag as a Christmas gift for 2010....Christmas came early for me. I expect it to last until I'm at least 75. Also, my wife is happy that she no longer has to hold the hand targets or kick shield when I want to work out. AHN-NYONG-HEE KAY-SHIP-SHOWADDENDUM 6.1.2011: Well it went 6 months+ but there is a stress fracture in the flexible neck; I have added the "manly repair" in the form of DUCT tape and hoping it holds till I figure out how to get a new one. This thing gets a workout, 5 days/week on average so I'm not shocked that this has happened. I will check back in and updat you on how my search goes. BPKD
UPDATE 6.5.11: Contacted Everlast and had a very good experience. They are shipping me a new "flex collar" gratis. You really can't ask for more....the duct tape continues to hold up :) BPKD
